Orientation

To support your success at ASU and in your WPC graduate program, participation in all parts of Orientation is expected from every student starting a Graduate program this Fall. Orientation is designed to support you in successfully navigating the student experience, and will highlight curriculum, introduce you to case work, and share academic tools and strategies to help meet your academic and professional goals. Orientation will allow for opportunities for you to meet, interact, and network with your classmates to begin building your network. MBA Programs

To better support your success at Arizona State University and W. P. Carey School of Business, participation in all aspects of Orientation is expected from every student starting the program this fall. We have created fun and innovative ways that will allow you the opportunity to meet and network with faculty, staff, and your new peers prior to and during Orientation. You will have the opportunity to connect with your cohort of fellow classmates, your program teammates (once they have been assigned).

Your support team within W. P. Carey will guide you through each activity and answer any questions you may have about Program Orientation.

Evening MBA Orientation

***All students are expected to attend Program Orientation.***
Saturday, Full Day – August 16, 2025, 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Orientation is developed to provide an informative and insightful introduction to our Evening MBA program. You will have the opportunity to meet with Evening MBA faculty and Faculty Director, Dr. Erin Jordan. You will also have the opportunity to link up with your fellow students as you prepare for your case study presentations. Orientation will consist of a mixture of sessions that will prepare you for life as an Evening MBA student.

Evening MBA Canvas Classroom

You will be granted access to the Evening MBA Canvas classroom designed specifically for current students in the program. This site will contain important information about Orientation, videos and pre-work you must complete, announcements from your Program Manager, and other resources that you will be accessing throughout your time in the program.

Participation in orientation is expected from every student starting the program this fall 2025.

Executive MBA Program Orientation:

Friday and Saturday, August 8 and 9, 2025

EMBA orientation will take place over two full days and will prepare you to be a student at ASU. The intent of Orientation is to help you understand expectations of academic success as well as the culture and community of W. P. Carey as you meet your cohort and begin this important academic journey.

This multi-day event will kick off the start of your program by helping you become familiar with case work, teamwork, curriculum, content, and program-specific expectations. You will have the opportunity to meet and network with MBA faculty, classmates, and staff, and each day of orientation will consist of a mixture of interactive sessions preparing you for life as an Executive MBA student. We'll also have plenty of time for teambuilding and networking as we will be holding a networking mixer following day one of Orientation. Detailed agenda to come.

Full-time MBA Program Orientation

Wednesday – Friday, August 13-15, 2025
and
Monday – Tuesday, August 18-19, 2025

This multi-day in-person event will kick off the start of your program by helping you understand case work, teamwork, curriculum, content, and program-specific expectations. Sessions will cover the MBA curriculum and concentrations, career management, leadership development, and team-building, among other topics, as you familiarize yourself with campus resources and become equipped for academic success. You will have the opportunity to meet and network with MBA faculty, classmates, and staff, and each day of orientation will consist of a mixture of interactive sessions preparing you for life as a Full-time MBA student. We'll also have dedicated time for teambuilding and networking as you become embedded in the rich "Business is Personal" culture. Detailed agenda to come. Meals will be provided.

Academic Bootcamp Day

Pre-work/bootcamp day is required for Full-time MBA students who have not completed the required academic pre-work modules prior to the start of orientation. You will be notified if you are required to attend.

Summer Start Cohort 2025

Online MBA Orientation for students will be held 100% virtually via Zoom.To better support your success at Arizona State University and W. P. Carey School of Business, participation in Orientation is expected and mandatory for every student starting the program. While Orientation will be virtual, we have created fun and innovative ways that will allow you the opportunity to meet and network with faculty, staff, and your new peers. Using tools like Canvas and Zoom, a portion of orientation will be delivered asynchronously before the synchronous orientation sessions. So be on the lookout for communications from your Program Operations team to prepare you for Orientation.

During the session, you will hear from your Associate Dean to welcome you to the program. Your Program Operations team will be there to give you insight into shaping your unique MBA experience by discussing concentration options and how to effectively work in teams. Your Career Management team will also present the resources available to you as well as give you the opportunity to network with your future classmates who will be joining you on this journey. You will also have the opportunity to meet with your core team and to network with your peers in your cohort.

MRED Orientation — TBD

Led by the Mark Stapp, Faculty Director and Wimberly Doran, Assistant Director, the purpose of Program Orientation is multi-faceted. It is to orient you to being a student at ASU and W. P. Carey. It is designed to help you understand the expectations of academic success and professional behavior, as well as the culture and community of WPC and the MRED Program. You will hear from your Faculty who will cover key topics such as curriculum and program expectations. You will also have the opportunity to network with your future classmates, faculty and alumni.

The Mandatory Orientation will be held in the MRED Suite (Room 150) on the first floor of McCord Hall on ASU’s Tempe campus. This is the MRED classroom and all regular lectures will be held in this space throughout the year. A detailed agenda of Orientation event as well as parking instructions will be provided closer to the date.

Items to Bring

  • Laptop - Part of the first day activities will involve setting your laptops up to access the networks and print services.
  • Combination lock - You will need this for your student locker. A combination lock is preferred as you will need to provide the combination to keep on record in your student file.

MRED Financial Boot Camp – TBD

This session will provide you a framework for real estate financial analysis. This is mandatory for all students. Lunch will be served and there will also be plenty of time for getting to know your classmates.

Attire

Please note the required dress code for specific MRED events and activities:

Business casual
Required for Orientation activities and all days during the program when we have guest speakers, which will be indicated in the online MRED schedule. For Orientation, it is also suggested that you wear comfortable shoes, as we may do some walking in the August Arizona heat.

Business professional
Required for student photographs on the second day of Orientation. During the nine-month program, you will also wear business professional dress for all networking functions, some conferences and events attended along with all three synthesis project presentations.

Casual
Accepted for most normal class lectures when there will be no guest speakers present. Casual attire is also acceptable in the MRED suite and classroom areas at most other times.
