Outstanding Graduate Student Leadership Award
This award recognizes one graduate student for leadership in the pursuit of excellence in three areas: academic distinction including contributions to the university, leadership in the business world and showcasing a spirit of giving within the surrounding community. Leadership in these areas is vital to the success of the W. P. Carey School and Arizona State University. The award will be given to a student in their final year of study at W. P. Carey.
Award Criteria
- Academic Distinction and Contributions to the University: Evaluated by not only the student’s personal academic achievement but also by the student’s success in inspiring and helping others to achieve academic excellence. Evaluation criteria will include GPA, contributions to student teams, contributions to class, and helping others achieve academic excellence. The student’s success in organizing and motivating others within the University or business community to achieve goals convergent with the W. P. Carey School’s mission. Students can demonstrate contributions to the University in a variety of ways.
- Leadership in the Business World: Could include spearheading a significant initiative at work that brings people together to solve an important problem (within the company or outside), launching a new product or service that creates a positive change locally or globally, leading efforts to engage employers better with the local or global community etc. In this category, committee members are looking for outstanding contributions as leaders that go beyond just executing the responsibilities of current roles.
- Community Leadership: Evaluated by the student’s contributions to helping build his or her community outside the university.
The weight and specific application of these areas criteria may vary across platforms in recognition of the diversity of student circumstances and opportunities to exercise leadership. The recipient of the Graduate Student Leadership Award will be recognized at the W. P. Carey School of Business Faculty and Student Award ceremony. They will receive a plaque and a $4,000 scholarship.
